Updates:
- Funerals must have no more than 30 people attending the crematorium and a maximum of 15 people attending the Bhog of Sehaj Paath at the Gurdwara.
- Sangat can continue to come to the Gurdwara for Darshan of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee on ‘Bandhi Chorh Diwas’ (Diwali) and the ‘Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Jee’ following the below guidance.
- Sangat should come to the Gurdwara for individual prayer only (even on the above occasions). Gurdwara Management should allow sangat to enter rotationally for a limited time, as is the practise at many historic asthaans. Sehaj Paath, Akhand Paath etc can still be done if broadcasting or livestreaming for the benefit of sangat at home.
- Gurdwaras are able to to hold diwaan (Paath/Kirtan/Katha) to live stream or broadcast. Ideally, this should happen separately to main divaan hall but this is not compulsory.
- Anand Karaj is still not permitted with the exception of those in the exceptional circumstances of someone not expected to recover from a serious illness.
Background
In response to this worsening situation, the UK Government has announced tougher action with nationwide restrictions to slow down the spread of the virus. This means 4 weeks of full lockdown from November 5th to December 2nd. This may be extended if there is not enough reduction in COVID-19.
The measures will be imposed across England and will replace the recently introduced three-tier ‘traffic light’ system used locally from October 12th.
Introduction
This guidance should be read with previous guidance issued by the Sikh Council UK, which can be found on our website (www.sikhcouncil.co.uk).
General hygiene and safety advice remains paramount and is the same as in previous guidance.

Each Gurdwara is strongly advised to apply this guidance with reference to its own specific circumstances, including its size and type of activities, how it is organised, operated, managed and regulated.
It is the responsibility of the Gurdwara Management Committee to ensure that it carries out a risk assessment in relation to the safety of each function during the current pandemic of COVID-19.
Gurdwara Management committees are advised to seek the advice of local Sikh Healthcare Professionals and adopt best governance, with an appointed covid-19 lead.
Anand Karaj
Anand Karaj cannot take place until at least 2nd December 2020 with the exception of those in the exceptional circumstances of someone not expected to recover from a serious illness.
Funerals

Sangat coming to the Gurdwara
Gurdwaras can and should remain open for ‘Darshan’ of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee as individual prayer is allowed
Practically, sangat is allowed to attend the Gurdwara, ‘matha tek’ and sit in the darbar sahib and engage in individual prayer, for example, by reciting Mool Mantar, Nitnem, Sukhmani Sahib or Rehras Sahib etc (on their own). *Face coverings should be worn at all times.
You should take into account and include:
- limits for Sangat members entering and sitting in darbar sahib – this should be decided on the basis of the capacity following an assessment of risk.
- people should sit in darbar sahib with 2m social distancing.
- sevadars monitoring likely pinch points and busy areas (such as entrances, exits)
- one-way routes inside with an alternative exit.
Daily Maryada
Gurdwaras should continue their daily Maryada and record or “live stream” Kirtan, Katha or any Paath, thus enabling people to watch and worship online.
Langar
Langar should not be served to eat in the Gurdwara. Gurdwaras can continue to offer langar, like food banks, to sangat and the wider-community as they were doing during the first national lockdown period.
NHS Test and Trace
Gurdwaras can consider participating in the Test and Trace system by keeping a temporary record of visitors for 21 days (this is not compulsory) or display official NHS QR code posters. We recommend that consent is taken. NHS Test and Trace may request your help in contact tracing and in the investigation of local outbreaks.
Mental health support
Faith helps people cope and make meaning, especially during times of difficulty. We appreciate that this second lockdown may lead to a rise in mental health issues. Many of us will feel lonely, isolated or anxious.

Nanak Naam Chardikala. Tere Bhaane Sarbat Da Bhalla
“Through the Name of God may there be high sprits. Through the will of God may all flourish”
Sikhs begin and end their day with the above prayer for all humanity. This prayer forms the basis of our actions as a community. We continue to stand, support and protect society during the COVID19-Pandemic. We do so only through the teachings of our Guru.
We are deeply offended and disappointed by the Prime Minister’s announcement and related guidance that infringes on the practise and expression of faith in the United Kingdom.
Whilst we are hopeful for members of this nation to be able to enjoy the festive season (of Christmas) we are equally troubled by the Governments’ approach to Sikhs.
It seems the Prime Minister, who has frequented Gurdwaras on numerous campaigns, has ignored Bandi Chorh Diwas (Diwali) and the Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Jee, the founder of our faith, in any considerations.
Faith communities such as ours, have displayed a high level pragmatism by making huge changes in their operation. Most Gurdwaras have become exemplary COVID-19 secure venues and their contribution to society during these testing times has been disproportionately large. Therefore, it seems unreasonable to continue with the ‘blanket’ policy adopted by the Government.
We hoped the Government had learnt lessons on consultation from the controversy it incited due to the appointment of a ‘Sikh Faith Leader’, earlier this year. The Sikh community, like other faith groups, is not homogenous but has a range of organisations and institutions with diverse views and opinions. This has been viewed by the majority of our community as the Government’s attempts to selectively recruit agreeable voices in the guise of ‘consultation’. Unfortunately, this continues to date.
Sikhs around the UK were dismayed that the first lockdown acted precipitously and impacted Vaisakhi. We have repeatedly urged the Government to broaden its approach and be more inclusive and aware of the faith practises of Non-Christians.
The Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Jee is the most important event in the Sikh Calendar. It is clear that spiritual needs are paramount in times of stress and they can continue safely in a lockdown if considered carefully with wider input. These restrictions, without sound reasoning, remind the Sikh Community of some of the darkest phases in our history.
Politicians in the United Kingdom have always been welcome in Gurdwaras. Boris Johnson is amongst many who have used the Guru’s Free Kitchen (Langar) during electoral campaigns. It seems, apart from ‘photo-ops’, no learning or inspiration was drawn from the Guru’s Free Kitchen for all. If this approach of the Government continues, maybe places of worship will also change their approach towards politicians.

The Sikh Council UK has today received a swathe of reports from Gurdwaras (Sikh places of Worship), Sikh Organisations and Sikh Individuals that posts they have made going back over a period of many years have today resulted in bans and their posts being blocked for reasons that don’t appear to hold any sway.
As the Sikh community pays it’s respect and remembrance to the thousands of Sikhs murdered in a targeted genocide in November 1984 in India, they are finding that their posts on the matter are being censored. This is particularly painful as many Sikhs lost friends and relatives in that genocide and the censorship of remembrance is to deny our history.
These report comes on the heel of the blocking of the #Sikh hashtag on Facebook and Instagram, two of the largest social media platforms. The incident came to light in early June during the run-up to the anniversary of the Indian army assault on the most holiest Sikh shrine the Darbar Sahib in Amritsar in 1984.
We call upon social media platforms to establish a dialogue with the the Sikh Council UK and other Sikh stakeholders to identify Sikh historical figures being reported for censorship.
Where content is restricted, there must be a clear mechanism within social media platforms to appeal the decision and have it reviewed by a human moderator well versed in the nuances of this topic. Social media platforms need to be aware that they are open to mass abuse by organised elements seeking to silence a whole community, their mechanisms need to be resilient to avoid this abuse.

ਜਾਣ ਪਛਾਣ
ਯੂ.ਕੇ. ਸਰਕਾਰ ਨੇ ਕਰੋਨਾ ਵਾਇਰਸ ਕਾਰਨ ਇਕ ਵਾਰ ਮੁੜ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਗੜਦੀ ਵੇਖਦਿਆਂ ਦੇਸ਼-ਵਿਆਪੀ ਪਾਬੰਦੀਆਂ ਨਾਲ ਸਖ਼ਤ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਐਲਾਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਦਾ ਮਤਲਬ ਹੈ ਕਿ 5 ਨਵੰਬਰ ਤੋਂ 2 ਦਸੰਬਰ 2020 ਤੱਕ 4 ਹਫ਼ਤਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਮੁਕੰਮਲ ਤਾਲਾਬੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਜੇਕਰ ਕੋਵਿਡ-19 ਦਾ ਖ਼ਤਰਾ ਘਟਿਆ ਨਾ, ਤਾਂ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਵੇਖਦਿਆਂ ਇਹ ਵਧਾਇਆ ਵੀ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਇਹ ਦਿਸ਼ਾ-ਨਿਰਦੇਸ਼ ਸਿੱਖ ਕੌਂਸਲ ਯੂ.ਕੇ. ਵਲੋਂ ਜਾਰੀ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਸੁਝਾਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਨੇ ਚਾਹੀਦੇ ਹਨ, ਜੋ ਸਾਡੀ ਵੈੱਬਸਾਈਟ ‘ਤੇ ਵੇਖੇ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਹਰੇਕ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਨੂੰ ਪੁਰਜ਼ੋਰ ਅਪੀਲ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਉਪਰੋਕਤ ਨਿਰਦੇਸ਼ਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਸਥਾਨਕ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਕੇ ਹੀ ਲਾਗੂ ਕਰਵਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਰਨ। ਹਰੇਕ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕੀ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਦੀ ਇਹ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰੀ ਬਣਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਇਹ ਯਕੀਨੀ ਬਣਾਵੇ ਕਿ ਕੋਵਿਡ-19 ਦੀ ਮੌਜੂਦਾ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਮਹਾਂਮਾਰੀ ਦੇ ਬਚਾਅ ਲਈ ਤਨਦੇਹੀ ਨਾਲ ਉਦਮ ਕਰਨ।
ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕ ਕਮੇਟੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਲਾਹ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਸੰਗਤ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਸਿਹਤ ਮਾਹਰਾਂ (ਡਾਕਟਰ, ਨਰਸ ਆਦਿਕ) ਦੀ ਸਲਾਹ ਅਤੇ ਸਹਾਇਤਾ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਲੈਣ।
ਅਨੰਦ ਕਾਰਜਾਂ
ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਕੁਝ ‘ਖ਼ਾਸ ਹਾਲਾਤਾਂ’ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ, ਘੱਟੋ-ਘੱਟ 2 ਦਸੰਬਰ 2020 ਤੱਕ ਅਨੰਦ ਕਾਰਜਾਂ ਦੇ ਸਮਾਗਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੇ। ਅਸੀਂ ਆਸ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਜਲਦੀ ਹੀ ‘ਖਾਸ ਹਾਲਾਤਾਂ’ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਸ਼ਿਤ ਕਰਕੇ ਸੂਚੀਬੱਧ ਕਰੇਗੀ। ਅਸੀਂ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਅਪਡੇਟ ਪ੍ਰਦਾਨ ਕਰਾਂਗੇ।
ਅੰਤਮ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ
ਅੰਤਮ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ 30 ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋਣੇ ਚਾਹੀਦੇ। ਵਧੇਰੇ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਲਈ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਕੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਕੌਂਸਲ ਯੂ.ਕੇ. (1-4-20) ਵਲੋਂ ਜਾਰੀ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ ਅੰਤਮ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ ਬਾਰੇ ਵਿਸਥਾਰਪੂਰਵਕ ਦਿਸ਼ਾ-ਨਿਰਦੇਸ਼ ਵੇਖੋ।
ਸੰਗਤ ਲਈ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹੇ ਰਹਿਣਗੇ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਾਹਿਬਾਨ
ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਾਹਿਬਾਨ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਦਰਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਲਈ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹੇ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੋਣਾ ਹੀ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਵਿਅਕਤੀਗਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਥਨਾ (ਇਬਾਦਾਤ) ਦੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਕਨੂੰਨ ਵਲੋਂ ਵੀ ਹੈ।
ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਮੌਜੂਦਗੀ ਕਰਕੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਹਾਲਾਤ’ਚ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਪੂਰਨ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਬੰਦ ਨਹੀ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੇ ਅਤੇ ਨਾ ਹੀ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਯਤਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
ਸੰਗਤਾਂ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿਚ ਦਰਸ਼ਨਾ ਲਈ ਮੱਥਾ ਟੇਕਣ ਜਾ ਸਕਣਗੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਸਿਮਰਨ-ਭਗਤੀ ਵੀ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੀਆ ਹਨ। ਉਥੇ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਮੂਲ-ਮੰਤਰ, ਨਿੱਤਨੇਮ, ਸੁਖਮਨੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜਾਂ ਰਹਿਰਾਸ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਆਦਿਕ ਦਾ ਪਾਠ (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ) ਕਰ ਸਕਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ।
*ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਮਾਸਕ ਨਾਲ ਢੱਕਿਆ ਹੋਣਾ ਲਾਜ਼ਮੀ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ।
ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਗੱਲਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਧਿਆਨ ਗੋਚਰੇ ਰੱਖੋ:
• ਦਰਬਾਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿਚ ਦਾਖ਼ਲ ਹੋਣ ਅਤੇ ਬੈਠਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਸੰਗਤਾਂ ਲਈ ਗਿਣਤੀ; ਸਮਰੱਥਾ ਅਤੇ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਦੀ ਗੰਭੀਰਤਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਨਿਰਧਾਰਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾ ਸਕੇਗੀ।
• ਦਰਬਾਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿਚ ਬੈਠਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਸੰਗਤਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਸੀ ਫਾਸਲਾ ਘੱਟੋ-ਘੱਟ 2 ਮੀਟਰ ਹੋਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ।
• ਸੇਵਾਦਾਰ ਵਿਸ਼ੇਸ਼ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨਦੇਹੀ ਕਰਕੇ, ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸ਼ ਦੁਆਰ ਅਤੇ ਨਿਕਾਸ ਦੁਆਰ ‘ਤੇ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਨਿਗਰਾਨੀ ਰੱਖਣਗੇ।
• ਅੰਦਰ ਜਾਣ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਨਿਕਲਣ ਦੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਵੱਖੋ-ਵੱਖਰੇ ਹੋਣਗੇ।
ਰੋਜ਼ਾਨਾ ਮਰਯਾਦਾ
ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਾਹਿਬਾਨ ਆਪਣੀ ਨਿੱਤਨੇਮ ਦੀ ਮਰਯਾਦਾ ਨਿਰਵਿਘਨ ਜਾਰੀ ਰੱਖਣਗੇ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਰਧਾਲੂਆਂ ਦੀ ਸਹੂਲਤ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਕੀਰਤਨ, ਕਥਾ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਪਾਠ ਦੀ ਰਿਕਾਰਡਿੰਗ ਜਾਂ “ਲਾਈਵ ਟੈਲੀਕਾਸਟ” ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕੇਗਾ।
ਲੰਗਰ
ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿਚ ਲੰਗਰ ਛਕਣ ਲਈ ਵਰਤਾਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਗੁਰੇਜ਼ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਵੇ। ਬਲਕਿ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਾਹਿਬਾਨ ਫੂਡ ਬੈਂਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਰੂਪ ਵਿਚ ਸੰਗਤ ਅਤੇ ਵਿਸ਼ਾਲ ਭਾਈਚਾਰਕ ਸਮੂਹ ਨੂੰ ਲੰਗਰ ਦੇ ਸਕਣਗੇ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਰਾਸ਼ਟਰੀ ਤਾਲਾਬੰਦੀ ਦੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਿਭਾਈ ਹੈ।
ਐਨ.ਐਚ.ਐਸ. ਟੈਸਟ ਐਂਡ ਟਰੇਸ
ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਾਹਿਬਾਨ 21 ਦਿਨਾਂ ਲਈ ਯਾਤਰੂਆਂ ਦਾ ਅਸਥਾਈ ਰਿਕਾਰਡ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਟੈਸਟ ਅਤੇ ਟਰੇਸ ਪ੍ਰਣਾਲੀ ਵਿਚ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਲੈਣ ਬਾਰੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ (ਇਹ ਲਾਜ਼ਮੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ) ਜਾਂ ਐਨ.ਐਚ.ਐਸ. ਕਿਊ.ਆਰ. ਕੋਡ ਪੋਸਟਰ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਿਤ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ।

ਸਿੱਖ ਕੌਂਸਲ ਯੂ.ਕੇ. ਨੇ ‘ਏ.ਪੀ.ਪੀ.ਜੀ. ਫਾਰ ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਸਿੱਖ’ ਵਲੋ ਉਲੀਕੀ ਵਰਚੁਅਲ ਲਾਬੀ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿਚ ਖੇਤੀ ਸੰਕਟ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਰਵੱਈਏ ਦੀ ਪੜਤਾਲ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਇਕ ਸਰਵੇਖਣ ਦੀ ਮੁੱਢਲੀ ਰਿਪੋਰਟ ਜਾਰੀ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਲਾਬੀ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨਗੀ ਏ.ਪੀ.ਪੀ.ਜੀ. ਦੇ ਉਪ-ਚੇਅਰਮੈਨ ਤੇ ਸੰਸਦ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਤਨਮਨਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਢੇਸੀ ਨੇ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਿੱਖ ਫੈਡਰੇਸ਼ਨ ਯੂ.ਕੇ. ਅਤੇ ‘ਸਿੱਖ ਨੈਟਵਰਕ’ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਭਾਰੀ ਰੋਲ ਨਿਭਾਇਆ।
ਬੁਲਾਰਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਯੂਰਪ, ਉੱਤਰੀ ਅਮਰੀਕਾ ਅਤੇ ਯੂ.ਕੇ ਦੇ ਕਈ ਹਿੱਸਿਆਂ ਤੋ ਸਿੱਖਾ ਸਮੇਤ ਯੂ.ਕੇ. ਦੇ ਕਈ ਸਿਆਸੀ ਆਗੂ ਵੀ ਸ਼ਾਮਲ ਹੋਏ। ਇਸ ਦੌਰਾਨ, ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿਚ ਪਾਸ ਕੀਤੇ ‘ਕਿਸਾਨ ਵਿਰੋਧੀ’ ਕਾਨੂੰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਚਿੰਤਾਵਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਸਲਾ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਬਿੰਦੂ ਰਿਹਾ। ‘ਕਿਸਾਨ ਵਿਰੋਧੀ ਕਾਨੂੰਨਾਂ’ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਿਲਾਫ਼ ਪੂਰੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿਚ, ਖ਼ਾਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਮੁੱਖ ਤੌਰ ‘ਤੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਅਤੇ ਹਰਿਆਣਾ ਵਿਚ ਭਾਰੀ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਵੇਖਣ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੈ।
ਇੱਥੇ ਦੱਸਣਾ ਬਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਅਤੇ ਹਰਿਆਣਾ ਵਿਚ ‘ਖੇਤੀ ਕਾਨੂੰਨਾਂ’ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਹਾਲ ਹੀ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਹੋਏ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਸਲਾ ਕੇਵਲ ਆਰਥਿਕ ਮੁੱਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿਚ ਹੋਏ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਦੋ ਸਿਰਕੱਢ ਬੁਲਾਰਿਆਂ ਮਨਧੀਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਤੇ ਅਜੈਪਾਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਕਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਮੁੱਦਾ ਇਕ ਰਾਜਨੀਤਿਕ ਮਸਲਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਦਹਾਕਿਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੀ ਕੇਂਦਰ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਵਲੋਂ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਨਾਲ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਸਿਆਸੀ ਵਿਤਕਰਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਲੱਛਣ ਹੈ। ਦੋਵਾਂ ਬੁਲਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਪੇਸ਼ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ ਸੰਕਟ ਦਾ ਹੱਲ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਤੇ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੀ ਖ਼ੁਦਮੁਖ਼ਤਿਆਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਹੈ।
ਸਿੱਖ ਕੌਂਸਲ ਯੂ.ਕੇ. ਦੇ ਸਕੱਤਰ ਜਨਰਲ ਗੁਰਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਨੰਦ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ, ‘ਨਵੇਂ ਕਾਨੂੰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਖੇਤੀਬਾੜੀ ਆਧਾਰਤ ਸੂਬੇ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਦੂਰਗਾਮੀ ਰਣਨੀਤੀ ਦੇ ਨਵੇਂ ਪੈਂਤੜੇ ਵਜੋਂ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ।’
ਇਸ ਸਰਵੇਖਣ ਦੇ ਅੰਕੜਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਸਮੀਖਿਆ ਪੇਸ਼ੇਵਰ ਅੰਕੜਾ ਵਿਸ਼ਲੇਸ਼ਕ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਕੌਂਸਲ ਯੂ.ਕੇ. ਦੇ ਕਾਰਜਕਾਰਨੀ ਕਮੇਟੀ ਦੇ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਮਾਨਿਵਜੋਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਢਿੱਲੋਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ। ਸਾਡੇ ਸਰਵੇਖਣ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਸੰਖੇਪ ਵਿਸ਼ਲੇਸ਼ਣ ਹੇਠਾਂ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਹੈ:
• ਇਹ ਸਰਵੇਖਣ 12 ਅਕਤੂਬਰ 2020 ਨੂੰ ਆਰੰਭ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਜ਼ਿਆਦਾ ਹੁੰਗਾਰਾ ਯੂ.ਕੇ. ਤੋਂ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੀ। 7 ਹੋਰ ਦੇਸ਼ਾ ਤੋ ਵੀ ਜਵਾਬ ਮਿਲੇ।
•ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤੀ ਅੰਕੜੇ ਦੱਸਦੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਯੂ.ਕੇ. ਦੇ ਲਗਭਗ ਸਾਰੇ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ (92%) ਦਾ ਸਬੰਧ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿਚ ਖੇਤੀਬਾੜੀ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਵੱਡੀ ਬਹੁਗਿਣਤੀ (84%) ਨਵੇਂ ਪਾਸ ਕੀਤੇ ‘ਖੇਤੀ ਕਾਨੂੰਨਾਂ’ ਦੇ ਕਿਸਾਨੀ ‘ਤੇ ਪੈਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਨਿੱਜੀ ਤੌਰ ‘ਤੇ ਫ਼ਿਕਰਮੰਦ ਹਨ।
• ਸਰਵੇਖਣ ਵਿਚ ਜਵਾਬ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਲਗਪਗ ਅੱਧੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਨਵੇਂ ‘ਖੇਤੀ ਕਾਨੂੰਨਾਂ’ ਕਾਰਨ ਆਪਣੇ ਪੁਸ਼ਤੈਨੀ ਧੰਦੇ ਖੇਤੀਬਾੜੀ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਇਥੋਂ ਤੱਕ ਅਸੁਰੱਖਿਅਤ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ ਕਿ ਹੁਣ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੱਦੀ ਖੇਤੀਬਾੜੀ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਵੇਚਣ ਬਾਰੇ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗੇ ਹਨ। ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਹਰ ਤੀਜੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਪਿਛਲੇ ਦਸ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਕੋਈ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਵੇਚੀ। ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਲਈ, ਜ਼ਮੀਨੀ-ਮਾਲਕੀਅਤ ਸਾਡੇ ਸਭਿਆਚਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਨਾਲ ਜੁੜੀ ਵਿਰਾਸਤੀ ਅਹਿਮੀਅਤ ਰੱਖਦੀ ਹੈ। ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਕਈ ਪੀੜ੍ਹੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਪਰਵਾਸ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਲਈ, ਜੇਕਰ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਤਨ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਦਾ ਕੋਈ ਜ਼ਰੀਆ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਖੇਤੀਬਾੜੀ ਵਾਲੀ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਹੀ ਹੈ। ਜੱਦੀ ਜ਼ਮੀਨ ਵੇਚਣ ਵਰਗੇ ਔਖੇ ਫ਼ੈਸਲਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਮਾਨਸਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਵਨਾਤਮਿਕ ਪੱਧਰ ‘ਤੇ ਬੜਾ ਬੁਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭਾਵ ਪਵੇਗਾ।
• ਇਸ ਸਰਵੇਖਣ ਦੇ ਅੰਕੜਿਆਂ ਦਾ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਪਹਿਲੂ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ 93% ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੇ ਮਹਿਸੂਸ ਕੀਤਾ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਕਿਸਾਨਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾ ਰਹੇ ਭਾਰੀ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਅਧਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਲੰਘਣਾ ਵਧੇਗੀ।
ਮਨੁੱਖੀ ਅਧਿਕਾਰ ਜਥੇਬੰਦੀ ‘ਐਮਨੈਸਟੀ ਇੰਟਰਨੈਸ਼ਨਲ’ ਨੇ ਅਜੇ ਇਕ ਮਹੀਨਾ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਭਾਰਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਕੰਮਕਾਜ ਬੰਦ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਸਨ। ਪੰਜਾਬ ਦੀ ਸਥਿਤੀ ਤਾਂ ਬੇਹੱਦ ਨਾਜ਼ੁਕ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਖੇਤੀ ਕਾਨੂੰਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਨੂੰ ਦਬਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਸਮੇਂ ਹਿੰਸਾ ਨੂੰ ਉਕਸਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ। ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਵੀ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿਚ ਹਰੇਕ ਰਾਜਨੀਤਕ ਸੰਘਰਸ਼ ਵੇਲੇ ਇਹੋ ਕੁਝ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ।
ਅਖ਼ੀਰ ਵਿਚ ਇਸ ਗੱਲ ‘ਤੇ ਸਹਿਮਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਕਿ ਏ.ਪੀ.ਪੀ.ਜੀ. ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ ਵਿਭਾਗ ਨੂੰ ਚਿਠੀ ਲਿਖੇਗੀ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਭਾਰਤ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਕੋਲ ਇਸ ਮੁੱਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਮਰੁਤਬਾ ਨਾਲ ਉਠਾਉਣ ਅਤੇ ਸੰਸਦ ਮੈਂਬਰ ਵੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਭਾਰਤ ਦੇ ਹਾਈ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨ (ਲੰਡਨ) ਨੂੰ ਪੱਤਰ ਲਿਖਣਗੇ।
ਅਸੀਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਯੂ.ਕੇ ਸਿਖ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਥਾਨਕ ਸੰਸਦ ਮੈਂਬਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਪਰਕ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿਣ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਪੀਲ ਕਰਨ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਫਾਰਨ ਮਿਨਸਤਰ ਅਤੇ ਹਾਈ ਕਮਿਸ਼ਨ (ਲੰਡਨ) ਨੂੰ ਲਿਖ ਕੇ ਇਸ ਮੁੱਦੇ ‘ਤੇ ਲਗਾਤਾਰ ਸਰਗਰਮੀ ਜਾਰੀ ਰੱਖਣ।

Yesterday, Sikh Council UK presented initial findings from a survey exploring attitudes towards the agrarian crisis in India during a virtual lobby hosted by the APPG for British Sikhs. The lobby was chaired by the vice-chair of the APPG for British Sikhs, Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi MP and was organised by Sikh Federation UK and The Sikh Network.
Speakers included several UK Politicians and Sikhs from across the globe including Europe, North America and several parts of the UK. The focus remained the widespread concerns of Sikhs against ‘anti-farmer’ laws passed in India which have seen mass protests by farmers across India, especially in the predominantly Sikh state of Punjab and Haryana.
It is clear, the recent eruption of protests in Punjab and Haryana is not an economic issue alone. Mandhir Singh and Ajaypal Singh, both activists at the forefront of the protests in Punjab stated that the issue is at its core a political one and is symptomatic of the Government’s treatment of Punjab for decades. Both speakers expressed their view that the sentiment on the ground in Punjab is that the solution to this crisis lies in Punjab’s autonomy.
Gurpreet Singh Anand, Secretary-General of SCUK, said: “The new laws can only be viewed as the latest move in a long-term series of laws negatively impacting the agriculture-dependent state of Punjab.”
The data from the survey was reviewed by Manivjot Singh Dhillon, a Lead Data analyst by profession and SCUK UK Executive Committee Member. A summary analysis from our survey is as follows:
- The survey was launched on 12th October 2020 and has had most respondents from the UK.
- The initial data suggests that nearly all Sikhs (92%) in the UK have ties to agricultural land in India and the vast majority (84%) are personally concerned about the impact of the bills.
- Half of the respondents were considering selling any agricultural land they owned. This includes nearly a third who have not sold any land in the past ten years. For Sikhs, land-ownership holds cultural significance interlinked with our faith and history. For many Sikhs, living as generational immigrants, agricultural land is the last tie to their homeland. Difficult decisions like selling ancestral land will have adverse mental health and emotional impact.
- One of the starkest statistics is that 93% of respondents felt that human rights violations would increase following the mass protests by Punjabi farmers.
Only a month ago, Human Rights Organisation: ‘Amnesty International’ halted its operations in India following ongoing tension with the Government due to Human Rights concerns. The situation in Punjab is precarious, and at any moment, the authorities can increase the intensity of violence to suppress dissent. This has been the pattern of behaviour every time there are political agitations in Punjab.
It was agreed that there would be a letter from the APPG for British Sikhs to write to the Foreign Office to raise this issue with their counterpart within the Indian Government and for MPs to write to the High Commission of India (London). We urge all concerned to continue writing to their local MPs, urging them to raise the issue further by writing to the Foreign Office and High Commission of India (London).

Surjit Singh Dusanjh, Spokesperson of SCUK said, “We believe his continued elevation on the highest decision making body of Britain’s party in opposition, will help strengthen the visibility of Sikhs in Britain, across the political spectrum.”

ਸਿੱਖ ਕੌਂਸਲ ਯੂ.ਕੇ. ਬੀਤੇ ਦਿਨੀਂ ਸੈਕਰਾਮੈਂਟੋ (ਅਮਰੀਕਾ) ਵਿਚ ਦੋ ਨੌਜਵਾਨਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਸਮਲੰਿਗੀ ਵਿਆਹ ਕਰਨ ਤੇ, ਜਿਸ ਦੀ ਕਿ ਗੁਰ-ਮਰਯਾਦਾ ਵਿਚ ਕੋਈ ਮਾਨਤਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, ਦੇ ਸਬੰਧ ਵਿਚ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਕਾਲ ਤਖ਼ਤ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਤੋਂ ਲਏ ਗਏ ਸਮੇ-ਸਿਕ ਢੁੱਕਵੇਂ ਫੈਸਲੇ ਦਾ ਭਰਵਾਂ ਸਵਾਗਤ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਜ਼ਿਕਰਯੋਗ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਮੰਦਭਾਗੀ ਘਟਨਾ ਦੇ ਸਬੰਧ ਵਿਚ ਦੇਸ਼-ਵਿਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀਆਂ ਸੰਗਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਿਕਾਇਤ ’ਤੇ ਕਾਰਵਾਈ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ 14 ਅਕਤੂਬਰ 2020 ਨੂੰ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਕਾਲ ਤਖ਼ਤ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਤੋਂ ਜਾਰੀ ਹੋਏ ਪਤਰ ਵਿਚ ਸਿੱਖ ਸੰਗਤਾਂ ਤੇ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਬੰਧਕ ਕਮੇਟੀਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਦੇਸ਼ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਅਨੰਦ ਕਾਰਜ ਨੂੰ ਕਰਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ: ਸਰਬਜੀਤ ਨੀਲ ਉਰਫ ‘ਫਰੀਡਮ ਸਿੰਘ’ ਕੋਲੋਂ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਪਾਵਨ ਸਰੂਪ ਲੈ ਲੈਣ ਤੇ ਸਰੂਪ ਸਤਿਕਾਰ ਸਹਿਤ ਨੇੜੇ ਦੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿਖੇ ਸ਼ੁਸ਼ੋਭਿਤ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜਾਵੇ।
‘ਫਰੀਡਮ ਸਿੰਘ’ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਲੀਲਾ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਸਮੁਚੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਭਾਈਚਾਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਰੋਸ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਜੋੜਾ ਬੀਤੇ ਕਈ ਸਾਲਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਵਪਾਰਕ ਹਿਤਾਂ ਲਈ ਸਿੱਖ ਸਿਧਾਂਤਾਂ ਦੀ ਘੋਰ ਉਲੰਘਣਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਆ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਜਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿ:
1. ਹੋਟਲਾਂ, ਰਿਜ਼ੋਰਟਾਂ, ਪੱਬਾਂ ਤੇ ਬੀਚਾਂ ਆਦਿ ਅਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਥਾਵਾਂ ‘ਤੇ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਕਰਕੇ ਅਨੰਦ ਕਾਰਜ ਕਰਾਉਣਾ, ਜੋ ਕਿ 1998 ਵਿਚ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਕਾਲ ਤਖਤ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਤੋਂ ਜਾਰੀ ਹੋਏ ਹੁਕਮਨਾਮੇ ਦੀ ਉਲੰਘਣਾ ਹੈ।
2. ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਕਾਲ ਤਖਤ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੇ 16 ਅਗਸਤ 2007 ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮਨਾਮੇ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੁੱਧ ਗੈਰ-ਸਿੱਖਾ ਦਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਕਾਰਜ ਕਰਾਉਣਾ।
3. ਅਜਿਹੇ ਅਨੰਦ ਕਾਰਜ ਕਰਵਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਸੂਟਕੇਸ ਵਿਚ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਪਾਵਨ ਸਰੂਪ ਲਿਜਾਣਾ, ਜੋ ਕਿ ‘ਜਾਗਤ-ਜੋਤ’ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਸਤਿਕਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਖ ਮਰਯਾਦਾ ਦੇ ਬੁਨਿਆਦੀ ਅਸੂਲਾਂ ਦੀ ਉਲੰਘਣਾ ਅਤੇ ਘੋਰ ਬੇਅਦਬੀ ਹੈ।
4. ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਕਾਲ ਤਖ਼ਤ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਤੋਂ 16 ਜਨਵਰੀ 2005 ਨੂੰ ਜਾਰੀ ਹੋਏ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਉਲੰਘਣਾ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਸਮਲੰਿਗੀ ਜੋੜੇ ਦੇ ਅਨੰਦ ਕਾਰਜ ਨੂੰ ਅੰਜ਼ਾਮ ਦੇਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਰਨਾ।
ਸਿਖ ਕੌਂਸਲ ਯੂ.ਕੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਪਸੰਦ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਰਿਸ਼ਤੇ ਨਿਧਾਰਤ ਕਰਨ ਦੇ ਅਧਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਤਿਕਾਰ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੀ। ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਾਰੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਤਾ ਹੀ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ ਅਤੇ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਦੀ ਪਾਤਰ ਬਣ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ।
ਪਰ ਸਿਖ ਪੰਥ ਦੀ ਮਰਯਾਦਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਅਨੰਦ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਸਿੱਖ ਧਰਮ ਨੂੰ ਅਪਣਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਔਰਤ-ਮਰਦ ਜੋੜਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਹੀ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ।
ਯੂ.ਕੇ. ਵਿਚ, ‘ਮੈਰਿਜ ਐਕਟ 2013’ ਦੇ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਸਮਲੰਿਗੀ ਜੋੜਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਰਹਿਣ ਤੇ ਵਿਆਹ ਕਰਵਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਕਾਨੂੰਨੀ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹ ਦਿੱਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਸੰਸਥਾਵਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ‘ਸਮਲੰਿਗੀ ਵਿਆਹ’ ਕਰਵਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਪਾਬੰਦੀ ਜਾਂ ਮਜਬੂਰੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।ਕਨੂੰਨ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਇਸ ਦੇ ਉਲਟ, ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਧਰਮ ਨਾਲ ਸਬੰਧਤ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਜਾ ਸੰਸਥਾ ਨੂੰ ਉਹਨਾ ਦੇ ਧਰਮ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਿ੍ਰੋਮਣੀ ਸੰਸਥਾ (ਜਿਵੇਂ ਸਿੱਖਾ ਲਈ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਕਾਲ ਤਖਤ ਸਾਹਿਬ) ਦੀ ਲਿਖਤੀ ਸਹਿਮਤੀ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਅਜਿਹੇ ਵਿਆਹ ਕਰਾਉਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਈ ਇਜਾਜ਼ਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
ਅਨੰਦ ਕਾਰਜ ਦੀ ਸਾਰੀ ਮਰਯਾਦਾ ਦਾ ਨਿਰਬਾਹ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਤੇ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿਖੇ ਹੋਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਅਸੀਂ ਅਯੋਗ ਥਾਵਾਂ ‘ਤੇ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਹੋਟਲ, ਰਿਜੋਰਟਸ ਅਤੇ ਪੱਬਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਪਾਵਨ ਸਰੂਪ ਲਿਜਾਣ ਦੀ ਸਖਤ ਨਿਖੇਧੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ।
On 14th October 2020, Sri Akal Takth Sahib, the highest spiritual and temporal authority of the Sikh faith conveyed a message to all Sikhs highlighting the sacrileges committed by a Canadian individual, Sarbjit Neel. Neel is also known by other names such as ‘Freedom Singh’ or ‘Sikh Priest’ to the media and general public.
Sri Akal Takth Sahib has instructed sangat in proximity of ‘Freedom Singh’ to work with local authorities and remove from his possession any saroop (published volumes) of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee. Sikh Council UK welcomes this timely decision.
There has been widespread outrage in the international Sikh community regarding ‘Freedom Singh’ and his wife Leela. They have violated many aspects of Sikh Maryada (Sikh practice) for several years. This includes:
- Conducting Anand Karaj at ‘destination-wedding’ venues which is contrary to the ’16th March 1998′ Sandesh (edict) of Sri Akal Takth Sahib.
- Conducting interfaith Anand Karaj against the 16 August 2007 Sandesh of Sri Akal Takth Sahib.
- Transporting saroop of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee in a suitcase to conduct destination weddings. This is highly disrespectful and does not meet even the basic criteria for the Sikh procedure that is used when Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee is transported.
- Attempting to carry out the Anand Karaj of a same-sex couple defying the 16 January 2005 Sandesh of Sri Akal Takth Sahib.
SCUK continues to ‘be guided by the teachings of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji as interpreted by Guru Khalsa Panth through the institution of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Ji’.
We remain respectful of the sexual orientation and marriage choices of all people. Sikhs believe the message and blessings of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee are accessible to all of humanity.
However, the Anand Karaj, like other religious weddings, can only be performed for heterosexual couples adopting the Sikh faith. In the UK, The Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act 2013 places ‘no compulsion to solemnize’ same sex marriages by religious organisations such as Gurdwaras. In fact, places of worship cannot register to conduct such weddings without the written consent of their governing body.
All Anand Karaj must take place in the Gurdwara, we condemn the transport of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee to inappropriate venues such as hotels, resorts and pubs.
